Reedy Creek Medical Centre is now offering Medicinal Cannabis Therapy Consultations. Our focus is to help patients with chronic conditions who may benefit from medicinal cannabis. Our GPs will clinically assess and prescribe according to Australian TGA and State regulations. You may visit the TGA website for more information on federal government rules pertaining to access to medical cannabis in Australia.
The Queensland laws do not limit what symptoms or conditions may be applied for by your GP. However, the GP will need to supply sufficient scientific evidence that supports the use of medicinal cannabis for the particular symptom or condition.
What You Need To Know
How can patients be prescribed medicinal cannabis?
Step 1: Book in with your GP!
You will need to book in for an initial consultation where your GP will assess your condition and make a decision about whether to apply for medicinal cannabis on your behalf.
Note: If Reedy Creek Medical Centre is not your primary healthcare practice or if you are a new patient, you will need to bring:
? a referral from your regular GP/Specialist with,
? a full medication history listing previous & current medications for your condition, and
? current Chronic Disease Management Plan (if applicable)
The criteria to prescribe Medicinal Cannabis is very strict. Our GPs need as much of your medical history as possible to provide to the TGA.
Step 2: Getting Approval and Script
If your GP determines that medicinal cannabis is a suitable treatment for you, they will contact the Commonwealth Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) for approval. This can take 1 -2 weeks. Once the TGA has approved the submission, your prescription can be written.
Step 3: Ongoing Treatment and Monitoring
All Reedy Creek Medical Centre patients will be monitored to assess the outcome of their treatment. Monitoring is done at approximately monthly intervals.
